89 Year Old Woman Knits 450 Blankets And Coats To Help Shelter Dogs It warms the heart to think about the kindness of this amazing woman
Eighty-nine-year-old Masie Green loves knitting and she loves dogs. One day, she decided to help the dogs who were waiting for their forever homes at the Dog’s Trust Basildon Shelter, so she decided to knit them some cozy blankets and sweaters.
Knit, she did.
She has made an astounding number of cozy, doggy blankets and coats-in fact, over 450 of them! Apparently, she is very skilled at her work and knits very quick. Age has not slowed her down in the knitting department.

Local dog lover Maisie Green aged 89 years hand knits blankets and dog coats for Dogs Trust Basildon. 🐶 Over the years she has knitted an estimated 450 items for the dogs at the centre to enjoy. Thank you so much Maisie! 💛 #rehoming #rescue #rehome #rescuedog #foreverhome #doglover #lovedogs #dogoftheday #instadog #dogsofinstagram #dogblanket #support #thankyou
“I love knitting and I love dogs, so this combines both wonderfully,” Maisie originally reported to the Basildon Standard. “It takes me three days to knit a blanket and one day to knit a doggy coat.”
Masie stays busy by knitting year-round. Then three times a year her family drives her to the shelter to unload the soft fluffy pile of her wonderful creations. It warms the heart to think about how much the shelter must look forward to these visits.
We’ll probably never know exactly how many lucky dogs received an extra measure of love and comfort, when they needed it most. But we do know that they must have been so grateful for their warm and comfy gifts.
Masie is happy to help and even at 89, she likes to stay busy.
“It keeps me busy and often I like to knit whilst watching television,” Maisie said. “I’m delighted to be helping the four-legged residents at the centre in some way.”
Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity with 20 Rehoming Centres across the UK and Ireland. They care for over 16,000 stray, unwanted and abandoned dogs each year.
Please share this wonderful story about the generosity of Masie, and how one person can touch so many lives, with your family and friends.
