Woman Arrested For Punching Boyfriend’s Face After He Left Her Dog Out In The Rain

How far would you go to protect your dog from potential harm?  In Myrtle Point, Oregon, a woman punched her boyfriend in the face for leaving her dog outside in the rain.

According to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies responded to a call reporting an assault after 6 pm on Tuesday, December 31st.  When they arrived, a man named James reported that he had been punch in the face by his girlfriend for leaving her dog out in the rain.

James had been reportedly punched in the face, not once, but twice by Morris and had a marble sized welt near his eyebrow, according to reports:

"Deputies observed a marble sized welt and a scratch mark on James' right eyebrow," the Sheriff's Office said. "James stated he was talking to Melissa when she punched him in the face two times."

Morris admitted to punching James for leaving her dog outside and was arrested on charges of Assault IV, Domestic Violence and taken to Coos County Jail for booking.  It is unclear if the dog was taken out of the home for its own safety.

The weather in Myrtle Point at the time was in the 40’s with cold rain.  We don’t know the condition of the dog.  We also don’t know how old the dog was, if it had health problems, or how long it had been left outdoors in the cold.

What we do know is that Morris was very mad over the incident and that if her mug shot is any indication, she was not very happy that she was arrested.  We can only hope that the dog lives in a stable home and that violence is not something that takes place there.  According to the Coos Country Inmate Roster, it does not appear that she is still in custody.

According to national statistics, “on average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men.”

While we certainly can think of better ways to deal with anger over treating an animal so carelessly, we’d be pretty mad if someone left our dog out in the cold rain.  However, physical violence is never the answer, as Morris has now been arrested, now has a record, and was forced to leave her dog during her time in jail.

How would you have handled the situation?  Please share with your family and friends.

I`d simply say nothing and let the dog back inside. We have cold winters here in Norway.
I`d take the dog with me to the bed with heating blanket, or sit in front of the fireplace.
No police involved, just common sense.

If it was my dog. He would have been kicked to the curb with his belongings.
