A mother’s love is unconditional and like no other. Even in the animal world, there is a special bond between momma and babies that cannot be broken. When a mother does lose a baby, she is left heartbroken. This is how this momma ended up adopting a possum for her own.
When Molly, a sweet beagle, lost her litter of puppies at birth, she was inconsolable. As she searched in vain for her puppies, one day she came across a baby possum that was all alone. She immediately took the baby possum for her own.
Molly lives in Australia and is around lots of animals, however, even her family, Elle and Sara Moyle, was surprised when Molly showed up at home with a baby possum clinging to her back. However, her new ‘baby’ was adorable and the two could not be cuter.
For Molly and the possum, which was named aptly Poss, it was love at first sight. The two have been inseparable since the day that fate brought them together.
They’re an unlikely pair,” Elle said. “I think that possum thought that Molly was her mother and vice versa.”
Molly and Poss spend their days together curled up or with Poss riding on Molly’s back. Molly watches over and protects her possum baby just as she would her own puppies. Since possums are nocturnal, Poss spends most of the day sleeping up in a tree with Molly patiently waiting at the bottom for her to come back down.
The two are super cute and share the sweetest friendship but it is unknown how long they will be together. Since Poss is a wild animal, she is free to roam as she pleases but so far the two have shown no interest in breaking their special bond. It seems as though they both need each other and are happiest together.
“It’s certainly uplifted [Molly’s] mood, they both needed each other, I think, so it’s been a fantastic relationship,” said Sara.
Molly loves her little possum and we can’t help but hope that the two will remain close friends. Their relationship has warmed many hearts and you can follow their adventures on Instagram.
Please share their adorable story with your family and friends.
