This family adopted a 12-week-old puppy that had been rescued during a puppy mill raid and then 7 years later, they nearly lost her.

A puppy mill was raided, and the dogs were taken to a Maryland shelter and then put up for adoption. One of the puppies was soon rescued by a loving family and was named Leia. Leia hit the owner jackpot.

Leia was the sweetest dog and everyone in her family adored her. She was a sweet and gentle dog who received lots of love and attention from her family. Cuddles, snuggles, and kisses were all part of her normal day.

Leia grew up to be a wonderful family companion and the center of their world. They liked to take her places. So, one day her dad took her next door to visit with the neighbor and that’s when their lives changed.

On October 11, 2022, a guest of the neighbor left the front door open and Leia wandered outside without being noticed. When they realized she was gone, they began looking everywhere for her.

They couldn’t find her so they thought she may have followed some deer or other wildlife. But a week later, they still hadn’t found her and began to wonder if she could have been stolen by someone since there was no sign of her.

It was then they got connected with Lost and Found Pets of Anne Arundel County, who gave them ideas on various ways to search. A woman named Donna helped them hang signs with the dog’s picture all over the area.

After that, they received their first call that someone had spotted Leia in the woods. They rushed there but the dog was so scared that she bolted. After that, there were more sightings, so they had hoped they’d soon be able to bring her home.

But Leia didn’t stay in one place long and proved to be difficult to find. The scared dog was in survival mode, moving further into the woods and away from people. So, Donna helped them set up cameras, traps, and feeding stations but still no Leia.

Three months later, Leia was finally spotted near the edge of the woods in a new area. More traps were set with Donna’s help; now all they could do was wait and hope that Leia would enter one of them.

They trapped other animals but not Leia. They spotted her on camera daily, but the terrified dog was still not entering the pen. Then 100 days after she got lost, all that changed. Just when they thought they’d never get her back, they got the call that Leia was trapped in a pen.

They immediately brought her home. After her ordeal, she was anxious and is still adjusting to life back at home. But she’s safe and loved and that’s the most important thing. We’re so glad they found her.

We hope you enjoyed Leia’s amazing survival story. As always, please feel free to share with your friends.
