Have you ever wished that your dog could drive? Well, this pup almost did. She took her transportation needs into her own paws and decided to take the bus to the park, all by herself.
The chocolate lab named Eclipse loved to go to the park with her fur dad, Jeff. The pair lives in Seattle, Washington and would often ride the bus to the park together. Who would have guessed the clever lab had memorized their route but she did.
Her solo bus riding began one day when she and Jeff were waiting at the bus stop on their way to the park. Jeff got distracted when he spotted a few friends and stepped away to say “hi.” He talked longer than he realized and missed the bus.
When Jeff turned to check on Eclipse, she was nowhere to be found. Apparently, when Jeff missed the bus the smart dog was not about to pass up on her playtime and got on the bus without him. The driver, who was familiar with the pooch riding his bus, let her on board and continued on his route.
When the bus stopped at the park, Eclipse got off and went to play just like she normally would. And, that was where Jeff found her, playing with all her doggy friends without a care in the world.
Knowing how smart his dog was, Jeff then decided to do an experiment to see if she could take the bus to the park by herself again. Not only did she make it to the park by herself, she also rode the bus back home all alone! After a few more trips to the park without him, Jeff felt confident Eclipse knew exactly what she was doing and could safely go to the park by herself.
Jeff then contacted the transit company and got permission for Eclipse to ride the bus to the park anytime she wanted. They said yes and even gave her a bus pass all her own. Lastly, he talked to the police department to ensure they didn’t have a problem with it. They said it was fine with them as long as the transit company was fine with it.
Now Eclipse can go to the park whenever she wants and of course the bus driver and other passengers are thrilled to share their ride with the adorable dog. The passengers enjoy taking selfies with her and she now has her own Facebook page called Eclipse, Seattle’s Bus Riding Dog. One of the posts reads:
“This is Eclipse. Every day she leaves her house, by herself, and takes the bus downtown to the dog park where she spends a couple of hours getting exercise and making friends, and then she takes the bus back home again.”
Certainly Eclipse has a lot of friends looking out for her safety and we wish her all the best on her buscapades. Please share her fun story with your family and friends.
