Nature’s ‘Accident’ Produces Beautiful Two-Faced Chimera Cat

Meet Quimera, one of the rarest looking cats on the Internet!

Quimera is an adorable feline from Argentina.  The beautiful, yet unique cat has captured the attention of people everywhere due to her very distinctive look.  Each side of her face is completely different than the other.

This two-faced kitty is simply gorgeous.  One side is ginger-blond with a golden green eye while the other is jet black with a crystal blue eye.  The tips of her ears are black and her body fades into a tabby-sable mix of both colors.

Quimera may or may not have gotten her distinctive markings due to being what is called a “chimera.”  A chimera cat is a cat whose cells contain two types of DNA, caused when two embryos fuse together, according to National Geographic.

Leslie Lyons, a professor at the University of California, Davis, who studies the genetics of domestic cats said:

“Among cats, Chimeras are really not all that rare," Lyons said. In fact, most male tortoiseshell cats are chimeras. The distinctively mottled orange and black coat is a sign that the cat has an extra X chromosome.”

Rare or not genetically, the only way to know for sure if Quimera is actually a true chimera is to perform a DNA test.  Despite this, she is truly a delight and shares some similarities to another famous chimera cat named Venus.

Whether she is a true chimera cat matters not.  She is stunningly gorgeous and her 90,000 plus followers on Instagram can’t get enough of her.  She is also a member of the chimera cat group on Facebook.
