What would you do if you adopted a puppy only to later discover it wasn’t a dog? Well, that is exactly what happened to this man named Paul.
On a cold winter morning, Paul decided to go for a walk to warm himself up with some exercise. He lived in Siberia near a forest that was a popular walking location. But on this day, he decided to explore a new trail.
As he walked, he heard a crying puppy. He followed the cries until he saw a tiny dog under a tree. The puppy was freezing and so young its eyes were still closed. Unable to comprehend who would dump this puppy in the woods, Paul picked up the puppy to warm it up.
He then rushed the cold puppy home and with each step was already falling for the dog. He named the puppy Akila and took it to the vet for a checkup. All was well so he took his new puppy home for good.
After that, Paul and Akila bonded as most people do with their puppies. But as the puppy grew, Paul noticed he seemed to eat more than most dogs. The pup was a bit unusual, but he couldn’t put his finger on what it was.
Then the puppy started to grow a lot and was eating even more. Its features started to sharpen as it transformed from its puppyhood to a young dog. As the dog’s body grew wider, Paul couldn’t figure out what breed it could be.
So, he started asking his friends what mix they thought Akila could be. No one had a guess, so he began sharing pictures of his dog. No one had a clue, so he then finally reached out to an animal expert who agreed to meet Akila in person.
When they arrived at the expert’s office, the expert was shocked to see Paul walk in with a Eurasian Grey Wolf on the end of a leash. These wolves are some of the largest on earth and here was one that had been raised as a pet.
The expert explained as young dogs, these wolves look much like puppies. But as they grow up, it becomes clear they are not dogs at all. Soon the story got out and zoos were requesting to adopt Akila but the man wasn’t willing to do that. Other people suggested he return Akila to the wild, but Akila had grown up as a pet and Paul loved him.
Paul man decided to keep the wolf and provide the life he needed. He was ready to face the challenges of taking care of a wolf, who had never acted aggressively and acted more like a domesticated dog.
Although he was surprised to learn the puppy, he rescued wasn’t a dog, he loved his puppy and was devoted to him. Owning him has got the man interested in wildlife and pet rescue and he’s now saved many animal lives.
Their story has touched many lives and we hope it touched yours, too. As always, please feel free to share with your friends.
