This man was brought to tears when he opened a present and learned that he could keep his foster dog, Mary, whom he loved so much.

Mary had a rough start in life. She was born in a shelter, which is no place for a newborn puppy. So, the shelter called some rescues and found Teri who was willing to take in the puppies and bottle-feed them.

Teri took the 6 tiny puppies home and cared for them until they were eight weeks old. Then she got to work holding adoption events and screening potential adopters until she found them their forever homes, including the puppy named Mary.

Then a year and a half later, she got a call from another shelter who told her they had one of her dogs there. Teri’s heart sank as she asked which dog they had and that was when she learned it was Mary.

In a panic, Teri went to the shelter to get Mary and was shocked at what she saw. Mary was covered in scars, had flystrike on her ears, her tail was chewed to the bone, and she walked with her head down.

Even worse, Mary looked defeated and so sad. Teri couldn’t believe what had happened to the sweet puppy she had so carefully placed into what was supposed to be a loving home. It was hard to even imagine that she had placed the dog in a home where she was neglected.

Teri promised Mary that she would find her a new home where she’d be loved and have the life she deserved. So, after a week in the hospital, Doug and Michelle agreed to foster her until the right home could be found.

Mary fit right into her new foster home right away. There she continued to heal and had two dogs to play with, who just happened to be two previous foster failures. However, this time, Doug was adamant that Mary would only be there temporarily.

But as far as Mary was concerned, she was home. She didn’t need time to adapt and was soon part of the family whether Doug realized it or not. It was clear the two loved each other and Michelle decided she wanted to adopt Mary.

So, she called Teri and asked if they could. Of course, Teri said, yes. But Doug was not yet aware of his wife’s plans. Michelle got busy planning the surprise that would reduce her husband to tears.

It was Christmas morning and Doug was opening a present that contained Mary’s name with his home address. Doug immediately knew what that meant and was overcome with emotion as he happily learned he was now the owner of his third foster failure.

As for Mary, she finally found her happy ending and would never be neglected again. We hope you enjoyed her story. As always, please feel free to share with your friends.
