Have you ever wondered what is happening to the dogs living in shelters since covid has shut down so many businesses? This is the story of an awesome dog who has been living in a shelter for 10-months due to the pandemic closing the shelter doors.
Girl Friday is a cute pup with a bubbly personality. She has been stranded at a closed animal shelter in West Orange, New Jersey for almost a year. The animal lovers supporting the shelter can’t stand that this sweet baby has been in the shelter for so long so they are trying to find the lonely pup a home.
The adorable dog found herself at the shelter in March 2020, after she was picked up as a stray. If things were normal she would already have her forever home. It’s impossible not to fall in love when you look into her sweet face and see her tail wagging back at you through the bars of her pen.
A trainer, Fred Zorn of West Orange, New Jersey has even stepped forward to offer free training to anyone who adopts her. He said:
“Every single dog deserves our respect and our kindness, no matter where they are,” he told CBS2’s Vanessa Murdock.
Fred and his wife are thrilled that Girl Friday is getting the much-needed attention she deserves. The dog was picked up by animal control and then covid hit. The shelter had to close their doors to the public and the volunteers helping the shelter were no longer able to work there, thus putting an end to adoptions.
That left Girl Friday without many options, living inside her pen, waiting for the perfect human to come and take her to her forever home. Thankfully, the dog and her doggy friends living in the same situation, are safe and cared for at the shelter. They get breaks from the pen and the shelter has now reopened allowing adoptions by appointment.
Girl Friday and her fur buddies, Cinnamon, Simba and another little one, can be adopted by appointment through the Pet Finder page or by calling 973-736-8689. It’s voice mail 24/7, but they try to return calls the same day.
“The shelter is located at 311 Watchung Avenue, West Orange. Once the Corona crisis is over and "things are back to normal" we should be back to the regular adoption hours, Monday through Friday 4:30 – 5:30 (except holidays) and the 1st & 3rd Saturday’s 11AM – 3PM. Hopefully it won't be too long before the shelter is once again open, and appointments won’t be necessary.”
Please share her story and help her and her friends find a home!
