Cute Rat Runs To His German Shepherd Friend To Take Cozy Naps In His Fur

Nuka the black German shepherd is the sweetest guy.  He grew up in a house full of other animals-big, small, bald, fluffy, feathered, scaled-he loved them all.  So it’s no surprise he’d welcome another tiny new pet into the home with no problem.

Nicole Yates

His mom, Nicole Yates, told The Dodo, “Our vet said that “when he was younger, that he was wise beyond his years … because he's generally so placid and relaxed.”

His laid back attitude and tender heart is probably why a tiny new member of the Yates household instantly felt comfortable around the gentle giant.  Due to the coronavirus, when a local pet shop had to close down and was looking for emergency homes for their animals, Nicole adopted a white and gray rat and named him Blue.

Blue moved into his new home and began looking for some reassurance and comfort.  He found it in Nuka.  The two very diverse creatures instantly bonded.  Blue would run to find Nuka and bury himself in his black fluffy fur.  Nicole said:

“There was this immediate clear connection between Blue and Nuka compared with my other rats.” It was more so Blue who seemed to adore Nuka! He loved snuggling into Nuka's fur and if I put him down on the floor he would run to find Nuka.”

We’ve seen a lot of adorable animal pairings but these two are so cute.  Their huge difference in size makes their unusual friendship all the more sweet.  It’s not every day that you see a big, brave German shepherd cuddling up with a tiny creature like a rat.

Nuka’s mom is responsible for some of his gentle demeanor.  When he was a puppy she taught him to lie down and to be calm around small animals she’d bring into a room so he is comfortable with little animals.  When he was calm, she allowed him to play with the small pets.

Blue is one lucky rat.  Not only does he have a German shepherd for a BFF, he also takes cozy naps snuggled up in Nuka’s fur.  The way Nuka is hesitant to move while his rat friend is taking a snooze is the cutest thing.  According to their mom,

“Blue is a very placid rat so he's really happy just being with Nuka and laying there with him, either snuggled into his mane or at his belly.  Nuka likes to bathe Blue with licks, which Blue doesn't seem to mind either.”

Please share their sweet tails with your family and friends.
