Despite being adopted and returned several times, this sweet dog had nothing but 115 pounds of love to give.
When Captain was surrendered to the shelter a year prior, the shelter workers quickly got to work to find him the perfect home. However, despite his friendly personality and beautiful looks, that task was proving harder than they thought it would be.
Captain was a Great Pyrenees and weighed 115 pounds. So, right off the bat, his size alone limited him to owners with the space and energy to deal with a giant dog. On top of that, Captain had some quirks to his personality.
He had spent a lot of time outdoors and may never have even been allowed to hang out with people in the house before. Sadly, he probably never slept in a bed or even lounged on a couch watching television with people.
It was safe to say, Captain was a misunderstood pup. Many people came to meet him but didn’t choose to adopt him. A few did adopt him and ended up returning him back to the shelter a few months later.
Yet, shelter workers were still determined to find the loving dog the perfect home. There had to be a family out there that would appreciate all the special qualities that Captain had to offer. It was six months since his last surrender and Captain needed a home.
Then a promising application came in for Captain. The family, Bruce and Bridgette, came to meet him and brought along their miniature dachshund, who would get the last vote in the matter.
Since Captain had never met a small dog before, the shelter staff wasn’t sure how it would go. But, it was love at first sight for Bruce and Bridgette. They were not intimidated by his huge size and Bruce stretched right out on the ground next to his new buddy.
When Captain and their other dog met, the two instantly hit it off and that sealed the deal. So, Captain was loaded up in their car and was headed to his new home, which had plenty of land for him to explore and a house that he was welcome to live in.
Captain immediately made himself at home and by a week later, was adjusting well to his new family and little doggy brother. He adored his new life and his dad even choked back tears when he told Captain he was officially adopted.
