The animal sanctuary, The Asher House, thought they had seen it all but when they laid eyes on their new rescue for the first time, her condition left them speechless.
They arrived at the shelter to pick up their new rescue and when she approached them, they realized the big dog was nothing but skin and bones. Once so weak from malnutrition, a flea infestation, and Lyme disease, she was unable to stand.
She was now able to walk, and the sweet dog had made progress but had a long road ahead. She was wobbly and weak, and still so skinny that each rib could break your heart and was evidence of her cruel neglect.
It was unfathomable that someone let her get so thin. She weighed only 70 pounds when she should have weighed a solid 130. Despite her condition, she was happy to leave the shelter and couldn’t be going to a better place even though she didn’t know it yet.
She was lifted into the van to go to her new home where she would meet some other dogs and was on her way to her new life. Soon she arrived at the sanctuary where she tried to go for a walk but was unsteady on her feet but happy to be out of the shelter.
She got to meet some new pups and although she was a little nervous, did super well. She was such a good girl; she didn’t deserve to be treated the way she was. She was carried up the stairs of her new home where she’d eat her first meal of many.
The new dog settled into bed with a tiny old dog that doesn’t even realize there is a new pup in the house. They named the new dog Mildred and celebrated being able to help her in memory of their dog Tony, who recently passed.
Once in the new pack, Mildred began to thrive. Despite her weakness and nerve damage from Lyme disease, she keeps up with the rest of the pack. She brings joy to the entire pack and everyone she meets.
Mildred had been through so much; they will keep her forever at the sanctuary that she has grown to love. She had been so neglected and now was treasured and despite her past abuse, was such a good girl.
Mildred is nothing but a big sweetheart now. She loves her cuddles and kisses. She enjoys her food and all the other dogs. She’s such a special dog and will never know abuse again. We hope you enjoyed her story. As always, please feel free to share with your friends.
