The infamous Cone of Shame, also known as the Elizabethan collar, always makes it into every dog's least favourite thing in the world. A large plastic cone that is attached around the neck and surrounds the head, the device is meant to keep dogs from licking and biting their wounds to avoid infection and speed up healing. But that doesn't mean they have to like it. While it's a little uncomfortable and restricts so many of their regular sniffing and licking movements, it also turns your dogs into a walking lamp.
As awful as these cones are to dogs, one artist decided to glam up and bejewel these cones of shame and put them on shelter dogs to help them get adopted. This is how Cones of Fame was born.
The artist, Erin Einbender, had started volunteering at the Chicago dog shelter named One Tail at a Time while finishing up her degree at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. It is here that she started this amazing photography project.
When she was taking professional photos of the rescue dogs up for adoption, she noticed that they looked really sad wearing their plastic Elizabethan cones. Because these cones are also associated with shame and negativity, she wanted to make the cones stand for something positive and decided that the best way to do this was to add some bling.
Read on to see the amazing work Erin has done with cones to help these adorable shelter doggos find their furever homes!
