When Duke’s owner’s housing situation changed, he could no longer keep his dog contained in the yard because he didn’t have a fence and now was living in the snow. His young dog wasn’t doing well confined to the house, so he did the kindest thing and rehomed him.
It all started when his owner had to relocate to Portland, Oregon. Which left his dog Duke without a fenced yard in the wintertime. Since his owner was unable to contain him in a safe yard due to the snow, he surrendered him to a friend of Lee Asher, Clint, who rendezvoused with Lee so he could take Duke to the sanctuary.
When Lee met up with Clint to pick up Duke, he met the sweetest dog. He was simply a good boy who had found himself in a bad situation and was now being rehomed due to no fault of his own. He also wasn’t neutered, which only compounded the problem.
Of course, Dave and Lee hit it off right away. Lee soon recognized a lot of his problem was that he was still a puppy who wasn’t fixed and probably lacked some training at a very critical age like so many dogs who are rehomed between 8 months and 2 years old.
Although normally they would have a dog fixed before taking them to the sanctuary, they worried Duke’s owner might change his mind so they took him as soon as they could. So, Duke and Lee hit the road and drove to Asher House.
Once there, Duke got a break, as well as a new name, Dave (the pack already had a Duke), and then was able to meet the pack. He was a submissive puppy who soon fit right in with the rest of the pack and was getting a lot of attention from the other male dogs since he wasn’t yet fixed.
But even with all his energy and the attention he was getting, Dave showed the pack what a sweet dog he was. He began to play and was soon having fun with all his new brothers and sisters who lived at the sanctuary.
If you didn’t know better, you would think that Dave had always lived there since he fit right in. He is such a lucky dog to have been rescued and able to go to such a great home. He is simply adorable, and it will be fun to watch all of his new adventures.
We hope you enjoyed Dave’s rescue story. As always, please feel free to share with your friends.
