Rudy has been blind since he was a tiny kitten but that doesn’t stop him from pouncing just like a normal cat.
Rudy and the rest of his litter were abandoned by their mother. All the kittens were suffering from severe nasal and eye infections when they were rescued by a local shelter. Sadly, all the kittens had to have one or both of their eyes removed to save their lives.
After Rudy recovered from losing both his eyes, the shelter put him up for adoption. That’s where he was when his new family saw him for the first time. The couple knew they had to have him when they started crying over the tiny guy.
It was love at first sight, so they adopted Rudy and cuddled him the entire 5-hour drive to his new home. Once there, they were happy and scared about how Rudy would learn to settle into his new surroundings.
But they didn’t need to worry. Soon Rudy was navigating the house and running up and down the stairs just like a kitty with eyesight. He even counts the stairs, so he knows where his is and knows exactly where his treats are.
He also loves to play with the two other kitties, and nothing gets past him. Since Rudy can’t see, his sense of smell and hearing is very acute. His sense of timing is also enhanced and knows where all the other cats and people are always, so he is a pro at pouncing just at the right time.
Rudy loves people and likes to be near them as much as possible. He finds comfort in the sounds his humans make that help him know where they are. He’s also a super snuggle bug and gets super happy when his dad arrives home from work.
His blindness truly doesn’t hold Rudy back. He can run, raid the pantry, climb the cat tree, and navigate the furniture with ease. His family tries to keep things consistent and in the same place to help Rudy feel comfortable and confident in his home.
One thing Rudy is great at is finding his people and pouncing on them and the other cats. It appears that he’s a pro at echolocation because he always lands on his target. Watch out because when Rudy is around, he’s going to get you!
Disabled animals like Rudy have a lot to offer and appreciate all the love they get. They make great pets and even if they need a little special attention, are worth every effort to show them they are loved.
We hope that you found Rudy to be as delightful as we did. If we didn’t know Rudy was blind, we would have never guessed. He is such an adorable kitty and super lucky to have been adopted by such an awesome family. Please feel free to share his story with your friends.
