Saint Bernard’s are huge dogs but as these newborn puppies will show you, they even start out big.
Sweet DeeDee is a first-time mom to a litter of three adorable Saint Bernard puppies, 2 boys, and a girl. The puppies are already huge and weigh 4 pounds each, which seems tiny next to their 160-pound mother.
Although there are only three of them, the puppies are already a handful. They roll around and nurse on mom and are already the size of some small dogs.
DeeDee and her puppies don’t live in the Alps, they live in a residential neighborhood complete with a swimming pool. DeeDee loves to swim and often takes a break from the puppies to cool off and get some ‘me time.’
One day while she’s gone, puppy Eleanor begins to explore on her own. But soon she gets stuck and starts crying out to her brothers. With their keen search and rescue senses, her brothers, who are not yet walking, manage to roll to her side so they can help guide her out.
But that is just the beginning of their shenanigans. It isn’t long before the puppies are even bigger. They now are almost as big as the household shih tzu, Goldilocks. Goldilocks has kept a close eye on the roly-poly puppies, but they have yet to realize that they are being watched.
Then one day, it happened. Eleanor catches the scent of Goldilocks and begins to search for her. She asks for help from her brothers, Duke, and Atlas. Soon, all three puppies are searching and trying to figure out where Goldilocks is.
But all they could find was Goldilock’s bed. So, they decide to take a break there. This is enough to lure Goldilocks out of hiding to get them out of her bed. But they don’t move so Goldilocks decides it’s easier to hide than deal with them.
It’s not long before the puppies have gained 4 pounds more pounds and no longer fit in Goldilock’s bed. Now weighing in at 8 pounds, they are taking over the house. Meanwhile, Goldilocks is just happy to have her bed back.
Since they are bigger, it’s time for their first bath. So, they are loaded up into a kiddy pool and lathered up, but they aren’t too happy about it. Soon, leader Eleanor shows her brothers how to escape the kiddy pool, so mom’s hands are more than full trying to wrangle three big, soapy puppies.
Eventually, the puppies will grow up and go onto homes of their own, even if they will never be in the Swiss Alps rescuing stranded travelers. Once they’re grown, they will join the ranks of one of the world’s most recognizable breeds, even if they are not the most popular.
Known as the gentle giant of the Swiss Alps, Saint Bernard is described as powerful, muscular, imposing, and massive. Males stand at about 29 inches at the shoulder and weigh up to 180 pounds. The females are smaller and are about 27 inches at the shoulder and weigh up to 140 pounds.
Both are very regal and have huge heads, wrinkled brows, short muzzles, and dark eyes, which gives them their friendly expression, which is just one of the reasons they are so adored. They are an old breed that hospice monks developed to help locate and rescue luckless travelers buried by drifts and avalanches.
These dogs will probably never rescue anyone from a snowdrift, but they remain loyal and companionable. They make excellent pets despite their size, and they are very sweet and loving.
We hope you enjoyed watching these adorable puppies and their mother. As always, please feel free to share with your friends.
