It was clear that she was terrified of her new owners and they wondered if she’d ever feel safe enough to leave her crate.
When this couple rescued Mavyn, they knew that she had been abused and would have some trauma to work through. But they had no idea that on the day they took her home, she’d go into her kennel and refuse to come out for days.
Finally, she slowly began to come out of her crate for food and water. But when she’d slowly emerged, she would always leave one part of her body inside her kennel in case she needed to quickly return to her safe space.
Her new family was loving and understanding and willing to give her the time she needed. Their patience paid off because five days later, Mavyn felt safe enough to get entirely outside her crate for the first time, but only as long as no one was looking at her.
This warmed the hearts of her new parents because it was the first sign that she was beginning to feel a little more comfortable. They knew they couldn’t rush her but she was slowly learning to trust them on her terms.
Then one day when they took her outside, something amazing happened and that’s when things started to look up. She seemed to be enjoying the outdoors when suddenly she ran into her mom Maddie’s arms.
Mavyn began loving on Maddie and climbed up into her lap with her tail wagging. It was as if a switch suddenly flipped in the scared dog and she began to feel safe enough to love on her new family.
From that moment on, Mavyn turned into a love bug. She transformed from a timid dog into a happy cuddler. She loves to be a lap dog and put her paws on her owner’s shoulders so she can look into their face and hug them.
She also loves her stuffy baby that she takes with her everywhere. Her stuffy was never far away and she carried it in her mouth. Even when she set it down, she always made sure it was nearby.
Her new parents knew Mavyn did well with a support dog. So about 6 months later, they adopted a fluffy white dog named Luna. Luna and Mavyn are now best friends and love to play together all day long.
Today, Mavyn is no longer a scared pup. Her confidence is up and she loves everyone she meets. Her transformation is truly inspiring and heartwarming to see. There are so many dogs just like her that need some time and understanding to blossom into the dog they were born to be.
We hope you enjoyed her rescue story. As always, please feel free to share with your friends.
