The neighbors were keeping this neglected husky alive while pleading for someone to help.
Lee Asher of the Asher house received email after email about a neglected husky named Joey who was living in the backyard of a neighborhood home without contact from people and never leaving his yard.
The only reason Joey was fed was because the neighbors cared enough to give him food through the fence. Despite being alone all the time and no one caring for him, the owner refused to give him up, but one neighbor never stopped trying.
When Lee arrived, he met the neighbor and hoped the owner would allow him to get the husky groomed. He was doing everything he could to aid the dog in hopes that the owner would have a change of heart and would surrender the dog to the Asher House.
The neighbor told Lee the owner gave them permission to get Joey groomed and spend the day with him, so they approached the yard. This will be Joey’s first real contact with people since he was thrown in the backyard where he lives year-round, even in the snow and rain of Oregon.
Despite his neglect, Joey is happy to see people. He jumps on Lee, is overjoyed at having some company, and is very excited to see him. But as a working breed, he’s worried that it’s only a matter of time before the dog could get aggressive because he has no outlet for his energy or any mental stimulation.
Joey is intense and doesn’t know how to interact but he’s not trying to be difficult. He simply doesn’t know any better and is full of energy. He truly needs his situation to change and hopefully, his owner will realize this before something negative happens.
Joey goes on his first walk with Lee and is so happy to be outside his fence. The neighbor even cries happy tears seeing Joey finally get some help. Joey is a good boy as he gets in the truck and is on his way to get rid of the fleas.
But afterward, sadly Joey had to go back home. But then the owner has a change of heart. After lots of back and forth, his owner finally agrees to release him. But before he can go to the ranch, he goes to a trainer where he’ll meet a few of his future Asher House best buddies.
Joey does great at the facility, so he is ready to go. He finally arrives at the Asher House where he’s greeted by the pack. He does amazing and happily explores his new digs, gets a chew, and lots of love for probably the first time ever.
Joey’s life is only going to get better from here even though Lee is just planning to foster him at this time. It will be awesome to see where he ends up and we couldn’t be happier for him.
We hope you enjoyed Joey’s awesome rescue story. Thanks to the neighbor who never gave up he has a new, great life. Please share his story with your friends.
