When this 2-pound puppy was taken to the vet to be put down because of a problem with his feet, some kind-hearted people knew they had to try to save him.
This adorable two-pound Great Dane puppy was taken to the vet by its breeder to be euthanized because all four of his paws were curled downward, “like a ballerina’s toes.”
But rather than putting the puppy to sleep, the vet immediately contacted a rescue, who rushed in and began to immediately foster the tiny pup and named it Forrest after Forrest Gump.
It was a race against time to try to save the puppy since every pound of weight the puppy would gain, would make it more difficult and painful for the puppy to walk. But Forrest’s foster mom was willing to do whatever she could to help the puppy walk normally.
She immediately began trying to help the puppy by calling every orthopedic specialist that she could. But each time, she got the same answer, which was they had no idea what was causing the puppy’s disability or how to help it.
It seemed that the puppy’s problem was very unusual, and no one knew what to do to help. But there was one thing everyone did recognize, this puppy needed help before it grew much bigger because the bigger Forrest got, the more painful his paws became.
Forrest was growing fast and finally, the foster learned of a dog named Lumen, who was born with the same disability, was the same age, and was brought to the same vet to be euthanized but was given to a rescue instead.
It was obvious the two puppies were related but there was a major difference. Lumen had undergone surgery to fix her paws. Lumen’s owners took Forrest and his foster to their vet at Oregon State where he would have to have surgery on all four paws right away.
After his surgery, he had a long road to recovery. While on it, Forrest was reunited with his sister, Lumen, again. The reunion was so sweet and even more so since it was because of her that Forrest was able to get the help he needed.
Finally, the day came, and Forrest got to go home. Soon after, he met a foster who fell in love with him and his funny paws at first sight. His foster was even willing to carry the giant puppy everywhere when his feet hurt.
Soon it became obvious the two of them were meant to be together and his foster dad was going to be one big foster failure. The two would now be together forever because this foster wanted nothing more than to be Forrest’s forever dad.
We hope you enjoyed this sweet rescue story. We’re so thankful Forrest found the help he needed to get his feet repaired. Such a great ending for both special puppies. Please share their story with your friends.
