Never knowing human kindness, it’s no wonder some homeless dogs don’t do well in shelters. Their behavior can make it hard, if not impossible, to find them homes. Often these dogs are simply afraid because they’ve never known love. Fortunately, people are willing to help.
This angry little homeless dog named Arnold is one example. However, his rescuer didn’t give up on him. His foster spent four hours every day trying to gain his trust. But, after ten days, he was still living in the bathroom and growling and snapping at her, unwilling to let her get close.
Worried about his mental health, she knew that Arnold was miserable living in such fear. She very much wanted to help him and came up with an unusual plan to win him over, but would it work?
She decided to show him she was safe and not going to hurt him. So, one day she entered the bathroom and approached him with a closed hand so he couldn’t bite her fingers. She got close enough and touched him. He growled and bit at her hand but never broke the skin. Arnold was just scared of human contact but not a mean dog.
Arnold was terrified and had been abused. But when he finally realized that he wasn’t going to be hurt, he slowly began to relax into her touch. He allowed her to pet him for the first time and eventually stopped shaking in terror.
Three days later, a big breakthrough came. When she went in to see him, he rolled over on his back for a belly rub. After that, he began approaching her for affection whenever she went into the bathroom to visit him.
It wasn’t long before Arnold was ready to leave the safety of the bathroom and venture out into the rest of the house. He transformed into a sweet little lap dog that enjoyed being loved and touched.
He finally realized he was worthy of love and kindness. He even started sleeping in bed with his foster mom. It took a lot of work, but Arnold’s happiness was worth it. He was soon ready to find his forever home where he’ll be cherished forever.
We hope you enjoyed watching Arnold’s transformation from an angry and scared rescue dog to an adorable lap dog longing for love. As always, please feel free to share with your friends.
