They were outside their home when they heard what sounded like a lamb. But when they closer, it wasn’t a lamb at all, and it was heading right for them.
Turned out the lamb was actually a fawn and it seemed to know it needed help. So, it walked right up to them and stood on the husband’s feet.
They called the vet right away who came and examined the fawn. It was determined that the fawn was abandoned and most likely its mother had died. But it was also too young to be on his own, so the couple decided to step in and help.
They instantly became parents to the baby deer they named Thor. The wife slept outside in a tent with him so he would be safe at night for the first month and a half. It was a big job because Thor also needed to be fed goat milk every three hours from May to September.
Although Thor and the couple bonded, he was never intended to be a pet. So, he always lived outside and was free to come and go. By the time he was 5 months old, he started spending more time away but still came home for bottles of milk.
Thor is happy to live near the couple’s home, which is his range. Now at two and a half, he spends his time in two different worlds. In one world, he’s on his own wandering the woods with his deer friends. In the other, he’s back home as if he’s visiting old friends.
The herd of deer that Thor belongs to lives farther away so sometimes he is gone for lengths of time. Since he can recognize his relatives, he’ll never mate with any of them, so he needs deer that are not part of his immediate family.
Thor is a special deer that is walking a fine line. He’s a wild animal yet he has a human family he still trusts and turns to. Once when he injured his leg, he returned to his humans, and they helped him get well.
It’s a very unique situation and thanks to his rescuers’ selflessness, the baby deer not only survived, but he also went on to live the life he was born to live. It’s not every day that someone will leave their warm bed and sleep outside with a wild animal so they will be safe.
Thor’s story is amazing, and we hope you enjoyed it. His family sure appreciates the opportunity to have helped him. As always, please feel free to share with your friends.

We have 13 rescued animals. My husband built an addition to the barn cat's house Meow Mews so that we could take it in turns to sleep with one of the cat's who was about to lose his best friend. Animals feel loneliness 💔
