This dumped dog was all by himself until a pack of coyotes adopted him.
A white dog was spotted living with a pack of coyotes near a Henderson, Nevada neighborhood. The sightings went on for months and include reports of the dog leading the coyote pack.
They named the dog Ghost. He was often captured on neighborhood and trail cameras. It was speculated the dog had been dumped seven months prior and had soon after been adopted by the coyotes.
People in the neighborhood began reporting sightings of the dog. They wanted to help him but anytime anyone approached, the skittish dog would run away. Worried that one day the coyotes would turn on him because he was limping, his rescue became more important.
So, the Southern Nevada Tracking Team began searching for Ghost. Days passed and they had not yet been able to catch him. But finally, he was captured in a crate baited with food. In the end, Ghost was relieved to be rescued.
Turned out Ghost was a docile guy who loves people. He’s happy to greet everyone he meets but has some scars from his experience. He is covered with scars and bitemarks, has a broken toe that needs to be amputated, needs surgery to remove his scrotum, and has some rocks in his belly.
But all in all, Ghost is doing well. He’s still a bit traumatized from his experience and has trouble sleeping at night. But no doubt, one day he will make an amazing best friend for the person lucky enough to adopt him.
About his experience, the tracking team said:
“It seems like he may have been put out there between seven and eight months and somehow or another, the coyotes just accepted him,” explained Susan McMullen of the Southern Nevada Trapping Team.
“He was actually just running with them and eating with them, but then he started to limp, and we were afraid with him limping that the coyotes could turn on him,” McMullen shared. Neighbors shared maps of the paths Ghost would take. McMullen and Zondiros searched near homes and the open desert for days and hours on end. We were very nervous about where he was, how he was,” recalled Zondiros.
But all that is behind the sweet pup who was saved just in time. We hope you enjoyed his amazing story. As always, please feel free to share with your friends.
