He was all alone and struggling to move when the Near and Far Animal Foundation learned about the puppy that couldn’t walk and was lying flat as a pancake. His back legs stuck straight out backward, stiff as a board.
When they first saw him struggling, the thing that stood out was that he was fierce. He was determined to move and not about to let his disability keep him down. There was something inside him that was just waiting to show the world what he could do when given the chance.
He was the NAFAF’s very first rescue puppy. He had swimmer’s syndrome but despite that, he had the heart of a lion and they were going to do all they could to help him gain the strength he would need to walk one day.
When he arrived at the rescue, Braxton was a tiny ball of courage and bravery. He liked to chase feet and was full of puppy personality. So, they called the Pibbles Plantation to ask for their input. They suggested he start therapy right away.
So he went to their rescue where he began to recover. He was immediately determined to keep up with the other dogs. He wasn’t about to be left behind. He wanted to play and cuddle just like all the other dogs. Because of that determination, he was soon walking.
After he learned to walk, a whole new world opened up to Braxton. He started to trot and then to run. It seemed there was nothing that he couldn’t do. He liked to play outside, bark at the other dogs, and began to grow into the dog he was born to be.
He remained a small size but kept his giant heart. Many people wanted to adopt him and they searched until they found the perfect family, @jettaandbaxton on Instagram. Braxton had an amazing life in his new home full of love and understanding.
He had many adventures, got lots of attention, and was the most special boy to his mom. Then one day he started not feeling well and it turned out he had diabetes. It wasn’t long after that diagnosis, that his mom made this sad post:
“Can’t believe I’m making this post. My baby boy passed in his sleep early Tuesday morning. He was my soul mate, my whole world, my life completely revolved around him. At only 3 years old this hurts even worse, he had his whole life ahead of him. I will miss him every day for the rest of my life.”
Braxton’s life may have been cut short at only 3 years old, but he will never be forgotten by the people who love him. He was a true inspiration for everyone who knew him. We hope you enjoyed his story. As always, please feel free to share with your friends.
