It was a scary situation that required everything to work perfectly in order for the dog to be saved.
Everyone knows that most dogs love the beach. They enjoy running on the sand, chasing the surf, and watching the gulls soar above the waves. A day spent at the beach is fun for dogs and is usually safe.
But that wasn’t the case for this dog found on Ocean Beach in California.
A runner on the beach heard a dog in distress so they followed the cries to find it. It turned out the dog was trapped under a pile of rocks. The scared dog peered up at the runner but couldn’t get out.
Animal control was called to the scene but had trouble finding the dog. By this time the poor pup wasn’t making a sound and the runner had gone on their way. But thankfully, the runner had taken a picture of the dog and sent it to the animal control officer, which eventually helped him locate her.
The officer said if he hadn’t looked in every crevice between the rocks, the dog would never have been found. But he searched and searched through all the rocks until suddenly a sweet black and white face was looking up at him.
But finding the dog was only the first challenge. Next, he had to figure out how to get her out. She was somehow tightly wedged in between the rocks. She was nestled in a tiny hole and with the tide coming in, there was little time left to get her out.
With no other options, the officer used his brute strength to shove a rock away. But the dog wasn’t moving. She was frozen in fear and possibly injured. So, he picked her up to see if she was okay.
To his relief, the dog was uninjured. Once she calmed down, she thanked him with a big lick on the face. He then scanned her for a microchip and quickly found her owners, who were looking everywhere for her.
It turned out that the dog had disappeared while on a morning walk on the beach. Her owners were grateful she was found. The officer showed them where she was found and they were shocked but grateful she was saved.
Thanks to the runner for caring enough to call for help and animal control for not giving up, this rescue story had a happy ending It’s also a great reminder to have a GPS or AirTag, along with your microchip, to help you quickly find your dog.
